CMOS Bulletin SCMO
Vol. 45 No. 5, October 2017
In this issue (Vol. 45 No. 5) of the CMOS Bulletin, Ben Moore-Maley discusses the impacts of ocean acidification and wind-driven upwelling on shellfish aquaculture in British Columbia’s coastal waters, Donald Reid and Douglas Bancroft of the Canadian Scientific Submersible Facility share their involvement in a collaborative effort to overcome the current limitations of access to ship time for Canadian ocean science researchers, and Ken Devine offers a piece of history with his look at the development of the Canadian chronometric radiosonde for atmospheric measurements. John Hollins’ very straightforward and important article on the facts of global warming and the need for governments to turn their attention immediately to the reality of adapting to change, is a must-read. CMOS President, Wayne Richardson, discusses all of the advantages to the new approach of the CMOS Bulletin as we move to turning the format into an entirely on-line experience. Geoff Strong’s book – “Convenient Mistruths: A Novel of Intrigue, Danger and Global Warming” – receives a thumbs-up review from Edward Lozowski, and a piece on one of CMOS’ founding members, Dick Morgan, offers a touching read as Dick celebrates his 100th birthday. Several smaller news items, member’s updates, and event notifications are also included.
